FAQs

Have questions about what it’s like to work together? Check out these frequently asked questions below. If you don’t see your question here, fill out this form to get in touch and I’ll be happy to help!

  • While I partner with Aslan Institute, which is an integrative mental health and wellness clinic in Eagan, MN, my practice only offers online therapy. If you live anywhere in the state of Minnesota, I’m licensed to provide the therapy services you’re seeking.

  • I do not offer in-person sessions at this time. Online therapy allows for more options and flexibility, which means you won’t have to miss as much work, school, or have to worry about travel time.

  • The process itself is no different from meeting in person! After our consultation call and the necessary paperwork is completed, you’ll receive an emailed link with a personalized code to a HIPAA-compliant platform. The link you receive will be yours and yours alone; no other person will have access to it. Because of this, you’ll be able to bookmark that link and join our sessions at the click of a button every time.

  • At the very beginning of the intake session I’ll review some highlights of the paperwork you signed beforehand, including informed consent, the limits to confidentiality, key policies of my practice, and answer any questions you may have.

After that, my main priority is building the therapeutic relationship

We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, the experiences you’ve had in your life that may have set the stage for what you’re feeling now, the goals you’re looking to achieve, and how we might accomplish those together.

  • As long as you need!

In my experience, past clients have achieved their therapeutic goals in an average of 15 sessions. However, some clients feel satisfied after only a few sessions, while other clients continue to find value after multiple years of therapy.

The honest answer is: you only need to be in therapy as long as you feel it’s necessary.

Although I can provide a clinical opinion, our work together will depend largely on your individual experiences, needs, resources, and goals. Those may change as we continue to work together, and I welcome continuous feedback on what feels helpful for you on your path to recovery and growth.

  • Below, you’ll find my current fees for services, effective January 1, 2024:

    • Intake session: $175

    • Weekly sessions (55-minutes): $150

    • Weekly sessions (38-53 minutes): $125

All fees are due at the time of service.

  • My late-cancel or no-show fee of $50 is charged to the card on file if notice is not given at least 24 hours in advance of your scheduled session.

  • I am currently in-network with the following insurance plans:

    • BlueCross/BlueShield of MN (BCBS)

    • Optum:

      • Medica

      • United Behavioral Health (UBH)

      • United Healthcare (UHC)

I'd encourage you to check with your insurance company before we meet to determine what out-of-pocket costs you may be responsible for, such as your deductible or any copays. To provide the most accurate estimate, your insurance company might ask for the in-network provider's name and location and a "CPT code" of the service you're asking about:

    • BCBS insurance claims will be billed through Lyndall Johnson, MA, LP and/or Aslan Institute.

    • Optum insurance claims will be billed through Ryan Drewianka, MA, LPCC and/or Telos Counseling.

    • The CPT codes that we will most often use are:

      • 90791 (psychiatric diagnostic evaluation (our first session))

      • 90837 (53+ minute session)

      • 90834 (38-52 minute session).

  • If I'm not in-network with your insurance, don’t despair! You may be able to utilize your out-of-network benefits in a way that still makes therapy affordable. I would still encourage you to contact your insurance company and ask the following questions:

    • Do I have out-of-network benefits for counseling services?

    • What is my out-of-network deductible?

    • How do I submit for reimbursement?

I can provide you with a detailed receipt that you can submit to your insurance company that will allow you to recoup some of the costs of therapy.

Regardless of whether you utilize in-network or out-of-network benefits, you can still use your HSA/FSA card as a tax-advantaged way to pay for therapy services. If you have any further questions please feel free to schedule a consultation call and we can discuss further.

  • Payment for therapy services is handled securely through Sessions Health, which is the electronic healthcare records system I use. During the onboarding process you will be asked to enter any credit, debit, HSA, or FSA card, which will be securely saved for any subsequent payments, such as session fees or insurance copays.

  • You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost, including mental healthcare. Under the "No Surprised Act," health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

    • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

    • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

    • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

    • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059.

  • Although booking appointments directly online is reserved for current clients only, the process to begin therapy is simple!

You can conveniently schedule a free 20-minute consultation call by clicking here and filling out the form, to which I will reply within one business day with available times for us to chat.

During our consultation I’ll ask you to briefly share what led you to reach out, and I’ll also be more than happy to answer any questions you have. If you feel like I’m the right fit for your needs, we’ll wrap up our phone call by scheduling our first session and I’ll share what you can expect for next steps.

  • Since I’m often in a session or focused on administrative work outside of sessions, email is my preferred method of communication; however, I can also be reached via phone, text, or the contact form on my website. Regardless of how you contact me, I will get back to you within one business day.

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please call 988, visit your nearest emergency room, or text “MN” to 741741 to receive help through the crisis text line.
